Another Artsy Indie Game

Since I linked to one artsy indie game the other week (Today I Die, which got the sort of media coverage and reviews I can only dream of, not that I'm jealous or anything), I thought I'd add another.

Windosill

Simple puzzle-based game. Completely charming. And, like Today I Die, it's hard to see that it's a puzzle game just from looking at the initial screen.

Windosill is $3, which strikes me as kind of a "Why even bother?" price. But it is awesome to see clever people doing their own thing and still coming out with something actually fun.

Oh, and heck, if you haven't already, play Samorost.

  1. Okay, I am completely confused as to why Today I Die is as great as everyone says. All I could find out how to do, and all the reviews mentioned, is swap out three words and drag some jellyfish around. The fact that you could change the location was mildly interesting but I have no idea what philosophical truth I was supposed to be experiencing, nor was I having fun. Can someone explain this to me?

  2. Okay, I did just figure out what to do, but if I hadn't had three reviewers telling me it was an amazing game I just needed to figure out I wouldn't have bothered.

  3. Yeah I gotta say I agree there bob. I played it, and I really struggled to finish it, and by struggled I mean in a "this is hella infuriating and I'm not really having fun" kinda way :/

  4. Yeah, I found out about Windosill a while ago and purchased it the same day. Three bucks really is the sweet spot for that game, considering that it is an abstract puzzle game.

  5. I suppose the concept of "Today I Die" is neat, but, the execution is severely lacking fun, or any kind of meaning that would justify calling it art. At best, it's trite art poorly adapted to the medium of a video game.

    It feels almost like a cargo cult "Braid" (though I don't know which came first), echoing some of its imagery/themes/style, but in an entirely incoherent manner.
